What we do
European regulations have direct effect in the legal systems of the Member States, as if they were their own legislation. As a result, Member States no longer have full control over legislation in the customs sphere. Subjects supplementing Union legislation generally remain within the sphere of influence of Member States. The activities of the customs authorities are laid down in customs legislation. Examples include responsibilities for the collection of import and export duties. The Union Customs Code (UCC) also includes an international customs regime, which forms part of the UCC.
Customs legislation applies:
